The organic marketing (marketing support to organic farmers) project is implemented by Sahaja Samruddha Organic Producers Company Ltd (Sahaja Organics) under Umbrella Programme for Natural Resource Management (UPNRM) in the state of Karnataka. In 2012, Sahaja Organics launched the concept of integrated organic farming. The objective was to mainstream the produce, especially vegetables of organic farmers by forming a market linkage. This was followed by organising the farmers into 20 organic producer groups which further enhanced the network of organic farmers at the village level. The inception of the intervention was based on the demand of market outlets. Hence, Sahaja Organics procured the farmers’ produce and assisted them with a 15-day production plan on the kind of vegetables to grow. The switching over of the farmers from conventional farming to organic farming has resulted in the improvement of the soil quality too. As a result, the cultivation cost got minimized and the net surplus was enhanced.
